Striking coastal landmark: With its tall, modern shape and red upper section, the radar tower is easy to spot from a distance. Especially during a walk or bike ride along the coast, it is a useful point of reference.
- Part of the Scheldt radar chain: The tower, built in the period 1985 to 1990, is part of the Schelderadarketen, a Flemish-Dutch network of radar stations that guides the busy shipping traffic on and around the Westerschelde. This includes vessels heading towards places such as Vlissingen, Terneuzen, Ghent and Antwerp. In 1991, this radar chain was officially put into operation.
- Beautiful nature right beside the tower: The main attraction is actually the area surrounding the radar tower. Nearby lies the Verdronken Zwarte Polder nature area, with dunes, mudflats, salt marshes, channels, salt-loving plants and many birds.
